KURTZVILLE – Wallace Fun Days, in honour of the late Bruce Williams, will hit the quarter-century mark this weekend.
The tradition continues at the Wallace Community Centre in Kurtzville, a custom that started with a focus on promoting fun and good sportsmanship.
In this spirit, all teams in the weeklong hockey tournament will play three 40-minute games with no scores kept and all participants will receive a trophy.
This year, 28 teams – with close to 350 young boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 7 – will take to the ice as part of the 42-game schedule.
For some it will be the first organized hockey they’ve ever played.
The festivities kick off this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. with a ceremony recognizing the 25th anniversary and the Williams family playing their annual game against a team of their choice.
This year they’ve selected the 1990-91 Bantams, a club that won an all-Ontario championship.
Organizers invite everyone to come out to this old-time hockey clash and to receive more information regarding this year’s version of Wallace Fun Days.
Also available at Sunday’s game is a piece of Wallace Minor Hockey history as the executive has opened up the vault.
Trophies, jerseys and other articles from yesteryear will all be on display and available for purchase.
The committees involved in organizing the 2010 version of the event would like to thank all of the sponsors and volunteers who help to make it a success every year.
