Clayton Karges
Clayton Franklin Karges passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 at the age of 96.
He is survived by his lifetime sweetheart, Lyla, of 70 years, and his four daughters Sylvia Wright, Donna Karges, Rosemary Bothwell, Maxine Lepitre, and their families. Visitation was held at the Westview Funeral Chapel, London, where the funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Interment in Medway Cemetery.
In memory of Clayton, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Children’s Health Foundation, or the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

Bill McLaughlin
Mr. William Elson McLaughlin of Sarnia, and formerly of Listowel, passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010 at the age of 55.
Beloved son of Wayne and Wilma (Ebel) McLaughlin of Listowel. Brother of Nancy and Don Harrison of Listowel, Peggy McLaughlin and her husband Jara Kollar of Coquitlam, BC, and Shirley McLaughlin and her husband Trevor Haddow of Salt Spring Island, BC.
Uncle of Andrew Harrison and Niki Lutz of Toronto, Mathew and Jen Harrison of Listowel, Ian Baker of Victoria, BC, and Thomas Baker of Salt Spring Island, BC.
Bill worked at Midwestern Regional Children’s Centre, and then with the Beer Store in Stratford, Thedford, Grand Bend, and Sarnia. Bill played and coached baseball in Listowel and Stratford with the Overholts and Hillers. He shared his love of sports, sense of humour and artistic talent. A wonderful host, Bill was happiest surrounded by his friends and family.
A memorial service was held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 1:30 p.m., and then to the Listowel Golf Course for a continued celebration of Bill’s life. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
Memorial donations to the Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated, and may be made through the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.

Mary Thornton
Mary Elizabeth Thornton of Gorrie passed away at the Wingham and District Hospital on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at the age of 86. She was born June 27, 1923 in Belfast, Ontario.
Wife of the late John Anson (Jack) Thornton (1991), whom she married in 1948. Dearly loved by her children Helen (Gary) Edge of Waterloo, Don (Tena) Thornton, Allan Thornton, Mae Hutchison and fiancé Glen Gallaher all of Gorrie, Shirley (Glenn) Whitehead of Wingham, Dianne Krotz of Listowel, and Murray Thornton of Gorrie.
Loved by her grandchildren; Ryan and Rachel Edge, Sara Dusome and her husband Clarence, Laura Thornton and fiancé Jason Lee, Katie Thornton, Jennifer Koch and her husband Grant, Steven Whitehead, Melissa Whitehead and fiancé Paul Jeffray, Jason and Tracy Krotz, and Ashley, Morgan and Brooke Thornton; and her five great-grandchildren Victor Koch, Seth, Callie and Lexy Dusome, and Kaylee Thornton.
She also leaves behind a brother Dan (Anne) McInnes , a sister-in-law Largaret McInnes, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and her friend Norman.
She was predeceased by her daughter Evelyn (2004), her parents Robert and Marie (Sherwood) McInnes and by her brother Will.
Mary was a wonderful mother and grandma and will be remembered for her kind, gentle and giving nature. She will be dearly missed.
The funeral service was held at the Gorrie Visitation Centre of the Schimanski Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating. Spring Interment in Gorrie Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jason Krotz, Ryan Edge, Steven Whitehead, Grant and Victor Koch, and Paul Jeffray. Carrying floral tributes were Mary’s granddaughters Jennifer Koch and Melissa Whitehead.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Gorrie United Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.
