Members of the Perth county OPP were called to the scene of a robbery at the Meulensteen Gas Bar on Highway 23 and Elma St. W., shortly before 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12.
Police say the lone male gas bar attendant was preparing for his 9 p.m. closing time, when an unidentified man entered the kiosk via the west door and pointed a hand gun at the attendant. Meanwhile, a second man entered the kiosk via the east door and struck the attendant on the back of the head. The attendant was pushed aside and the men removed a small amount of cash from the till. Both ran from the kiosk toward a vehicle parked beside the Meulensteen shop. This car, described as a dark coloured, four-door mid-sized vehicle, sped off in an easterly direction on Elma St. W.
The man with the gun was described as in his mid 20s, clean shaven, approximately 5’9” tall (175 cm), with an olive complexion. He was wearing a black tuque and a black sweater-type jacket. No description is available for the second man.
Dave Meulensteen commented that he’s glad no one was hurt. The clerk, while shaken up, is all right, he said. “It’s obviously unfortunate,” he said, and stated the store has “substantial procedures” in place to prevent such occurrences.
The Perth County OPP, with the assistance of the Perth County OPP Crime Unit, is investigating.
Anyone who may have driven by the gas station around the time of the robbery, or anyone with information that may help to identify the suspects, is requested to contact the Perth County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
