After some delay, the new Atwood sewer project is ready to go, North Perth councillor Randy Pettapiece reported at the March 1 meeting.
Pettapiece said that letters will be sent out shortly to residents advising them when they will be able to hook into the new system, with the first expected to happen soon.
“The first hook-up will happen soon because there are some people on holding tanks and want to get going on this thing,” Pettapiece said.
The goal is to have all residents hooked into the new sewer by September of this year, with more information available by calling public works director Gary Pipe at 519-292-2066.
The actual cost of the user-pay project to residents of Atwood is yet to be finalized, Pettapiece said, which will be done when all the costs are received.
“An estimate will be done when all the costs are brought in to the municipal account from the project,” Pettapiece said.
Despite the delays in the project, Pettapiece is satisfied with how the Atwood sewers have turned out and looks forward to seeing the benefits in the future.
“Atwood has a bunch of new streets out of this, and I think it’s going to help with the development,” Pettapiece said. “I think it’s a win-win situation for Atwood and the municipality.”
