Martha Ames
Martha Ames, of Listowel and formerly of RR 2 Atwood, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the age of 64. Martha was a member of Donegal United Church. She enjoyed quilting, but especially loved spending time with her family.
Wife of the late Malcolm Ames, whom she married on July 6, 1963 and who predeceased her in 1993. Loving mother of Shiela Ames and Matt Hodgkinson, George Ames all of Listowel, and Joan and Bruce Pehlke of Trowbridge. Special grandmother of Makayla, Mac, Justin and friend Sylvia, and Brandon.
Daughter of Murray Hall of Essex and the late Jean (Mulcaster) Hall. Dear sister of Linda and Don Raymont, Connie and Wayne Stockwell all of Cottom, Joan and Mel Hutchinson, Barb and Dave Gagnon, Stan and Heidi Hall, Tom and Wendy Hall, and Bob Hall, all of Essex. Fondly remembered by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gerald and Joyce Ames of London, Bryan and Brenda Ames of Atwood, Shirley Ames-Bittorf and Dave Bittorf of Owen Sound, and many nieces and nephews.
Martha’s family invited relatives and friends to share their memories on Thursday, July 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Brenneman Funeral Home, Atwood, where the funeral service to celebrate her life was held on Friday July 9 at 11 a.m. with Ruth Long officiating. Interment followed in Donegal Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation or Donegal United Church would be appreciated by the family.

Grace Verheye
Grace Lenore (Ferguson) Verheye of Caressant Care, Listowel, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2010. A caring and concerning, devoted wife, mother and grandmother passed away from age related illnesses.
Missed and loved, Grace leaves behind Henry, her husband of 58 years, her son Glen and his wife Irene from Kitchener, and her daughter Karen Furtney and her husband Alan from Stratford. Also loved by her grandsons Paul and Blair Verheye, Brent Furtney, and her one and only granddaughter Rhonda Furtney.
Also survived by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ethel Reeves from Chippewa, Yvonne Zyta and her husband Adrian from Britton, Goldie Ferguson from Stratford, Margaret Small, Janet Shewfelt and her husband David Dickson, Cyriel and his wife Pat Verheye, and Gordon “Shorty” Wayland, all from Kincardine, Robert (Bob) Verheye from Hamilton, cousin-in-law Marcella Jennings and husband Bob from London, and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Grace will also be missed by many friends and neighbours and among those faithful friends are Dorothy Davidson, Colleen Bender, Jeff Bender, all from Listowel, and Bev Bowman from Elmira.
Predeceased by her parents Jim and Jennie Bell (McCutcheon) Ferguson, brother Roy, an infant sister, brother-in-law Edward Reeves, great-aunt and great-uncle Mary and Russel McCutcheon, father-in-law and mother -in-law Cyriel and Angela Verheye, , brothers-in-law Albert Verheye, Raymond Small, and Orville Shewfelt, sisters-in-law Marjorie Verheye and Shirley Wayland, and niece Elaine Wayland.
Grace was born in Moorefield, Ontario and raised in Listowel at 496 York Ave, was primarily a housewife, but held part-time jobs at Chainway, and Spinrite Yarns and Dyers in Listowel and babysat for many of Listowel’s youngsters over the years. Grace nurtured her family at the little house that once was at 755 Main St. E., Listowel.
Visitation was held on Monday, July 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, where the funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 13 at 11 a.m. Rev. Don McCallum officiated. Interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood.
Memorial donations to Caressant Care Residents’ Council, or Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel, would be appreciated.

Jack Gee
Mr. John Sherwood Gee of Listowel, peacefully, on Monday, July 5, 2010 at the age of 97.
Beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Diemert) Gee. Dear father of John and Deb Gee of Owen Sound, Robert and Cathy Gee of Elmira, and Susan and Bill Boneschansker of Atwood.
Grandfather of Aaron Gee, Adam and Genevieve Gee, Christopher and Jenna Gee, Ashleigh Gee, Stephen and Nicole McGrath, Paul McGrath, and Laura Cofell. Great-grandfather of Katelyn Anne Cofell, Johnathan Quinn McGrath, Rylan Patrick McGrath, and Alice Joyce Patricia Gee.  
Brother of Dorothy McKay, and Florence Sangster, both of Listowel, and brother-in-law of Jean Diemert of Grimsby, and Mary Diemert of Durham. Survived also by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents Daisy Dean (Seigner) and  John Howard Gee, and by his sisters, Elsie and her husband Robert Andrews, Thelma and her husband Dr. George Finkbeiner, Evelyn and her husband Dr. Gordon Kirk, Olga and her husband Evan Fallis, Marie and her husband Dr. Jack Roe, and Marion and her husband Bruce Burdett. Predeceased by his brother-in-laws Edward Diemert , Jerry Diemert, Ken Sangster, and Don McKay, and sister-in-laws Margaret and her husband Norbert Schnurr, and Eleanor and her husband Bob Sharpe .
Jack Gee was born and raised in Listowel. He served in the Second World War as a Regimental Sergeant Major in the 24th Field Ambulance Corps, and was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery on the Field in Holland in 1945. Back home in Listowel, he married Dorothy Diemert and served as Listowel area Staff Postmaster for over 30 years.
He was an active member of the Listowel community. At Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel, Jack served as Sunday School superintendent for 20 years, was Clerk of Session and a lifetime elder. Jack was active in his community, being a member of the Masonic Lodge, Listowel Legion, and Listowel School Board. He was also a member of the Red Cross, and started and organized the St. John’s Ambulance in Listowel. He was instrumental in acquiring an ambulance for the organization in Listowel, as well as initiating and directing the Emergency Measures Organization for 10 years.
While volunteering for the Gideon Bible Society, Jack delivered Bibles to the local schools until his late 80s, and did shut-in visits up until the age of 90 years. He was called the “Candy Man”, and later “The Whistler”, and will be will be remembered by many for his kindness, loving smile and quick whistle.
Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, on Thursday, July 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Royal Canadian Legion Memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 4 p.m., and a Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel, on Friday, July 9 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Don McCallum officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.

Jakob (Jake) Versteeg
Jakob Versteeg, beloved husband of Catharina Versteeg of Howick Twp., passed away at North Wellington Health Care in Palmerston on Monday, July 5, 2010 at the age of 83 years.
Dear father of Carrie Groen and Ralph of Westover, Irene Reinink and Robert of Winnipeg, Martha Schellingerhoud and George of Aurora, Abe Versteeg and Debbie, Art Versteeg and Louise, and Eric Versteeg and Hazel, all of Howick Twp. Also survived by 20 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Predeceased by a daughter Betty and brothers Robert, Cornelius and Arendjen Versteeg.
Friends were received at the Garrett Funeral Chapel in Clifford until noon on Friday, July 9, then to Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Listowel for a celebration of Jakob’s life at 2 p.m. Interment in Lakelet Cemetery, Howick Twp. Pastor Jack Quartel officiated.
Jake’s grandsons were the pallbearers: Jeff Reinink, Ian Groen, Andrew Schellingerhoud, Justin Versteeg, Lewis Versteeg, Tom Versteeg, Michael Versteeg and Nathan Versteeg.

Jean Fox
Jean Isabel (Heibein) Fox of RR 1 Blyth passed away at Seaforth Community Hospital on Sunday, July 4, 2010. Born in Grey Township on Oct. 28, 1925, Jean was 84.
Beloved wife of the late Vic Fox, who predeceased Jean on Jan. 17, 1981. Dear sister of Stan Heibein and wife Maureen of Milverton, Kathleen Bridge of Goderich, Ruth Parkhouse of Atwood, Julenia Draper of Brussels, Jack Heibein of Guelph, Joyce Jones and husband Fred of Milverton, Phyllis Hanna and husband Thomas of Whitby, Bill Heibein and wife Debbie of Listowel, and Lloyd Heibein of Listowel. Also loved by her several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents George and Charlotte (Candler) Heibein; sisters Gertie Lambkin and Mabel, Evelyn and Joy all in infancy; nieces Brenda, Pamela, Sherry and Patricia and nephew Scott.
Friends were received by the family from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday July 7 and one hour prior to the funeral service conducted at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home on Thursday, July 8 at 11 a.m. Pastor Sandra Cable of Brussels United Church officiated.
Pallbearers were Jeff Heibein, Garry Bridge, Robbie Mitchell, John Lammerant, Don Lammerant, and Kyle Watts. Interment in Brussels Cemetery.

David Budnark
David Wesley Budnark of Stratford passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the age of 63. Born in Oakville, son of the late Wesley Budnark and the former Edna Trithart.
Beloved husband of Linda (Beirnes). Loving father of Tracy Budnark and friend Larry of Toronto, and Devin Budnark, Steven Budnark and Brad Budnark, all of Gadshill.
Dear brother of Ken (Donna) Budnark of Oakville, Terry Budnark of Ingersoll, Donald (Dianne) Budnark of Goderich, Susan (Gary) Davis of Lakeside. Also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Jim and June Beirnes, Sharon and Wally Christensen, Bonnie Murr, Wayne and Maxine Beirnes, Janet Hamilton, Paul and Valerie Beirnes, and Brian and Anna Beirnes; many nieces and nephews; and his buddy, “Bear” the dog.
Predeceased by his nephews Joe Davis and Wesley Budnark (infancy), mother-in-law and father-in-law Margaret and Clifford Beirnes and brother-in-law Paul Murr.

Mrs. Alice Marlene (Stevens) Johnston of Listowel, and formerly of Fordwich, passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the age of 71.
Wife of the late Bob Johnston. Mother of Nancy and Dennis Koebel of Waterloo, Charlie and Georgina Johnston of Bluevale, Brenda and Brent Day of Dorchester, and David Johnston and fiancée Sheila Quinn, and Diane and Roger McCoag, all of Listowel. Grandmother of Andrew, Tricia, Tyler, Kyle, Ethan, Nicholas, Melissa, Chantal, Tasha, Courtney, Rosalee, and Matthew. Great-grandmother of Joshua, Maria, Emma, and Abby.
Sister of Albert Stevens of Guelph, Marie Marsh, Kenneth Stevens, and Betty-Anne and Cecil McClory, all of Listowel, Clifford and Sheila Stevens of Ethel, and Helen Subject of Atwood, and sister-in-law of Lloyd and Fran Johnston of Listowel.
Predeceased by her parents Lorne and Alice (Locking) Stevens, by her sisters-in-law Helen Bartman and her husband Murray, and Betty-Kay Stevens, and by her brother-in-law Jerry Huisser.
