Bauman scores 43 in win

ST. MARYS – It was a perfect day for the local high school basketball teams.
The Listowel Lightning – the junior and senior versions – went a combined 4-0 in a one-day regular season tournament last Wednesday, Feb. 3 in St. Marys.
Justin Bauman led all scorers with an astounding 43 points as the juniors slammed the host St. Marys Salukis 69-25.
He also topped the scoring column with 21 in a 52-24 triumph over the South Huron Panthers.
Andy Seymour and Joey Hollinger both hit double-digits in a 60-41 victory for the seniors against St. Marys, tossing up 23 and 18 respectively.
The dynamic duo combined for 44 of the team’s points – 75 per cent – in the other game as they clawed the Panthers 59-32.
Senior player Tyler Bonsma said the group had a strong showing.
“We played really well. We brought effort and made the easy shots,” he said.
In the juniors’ contest versus the Salukis, Justin Ferreira had nine, Zach Raycraft nine, Ryan Davidson four, Brandon Galbraith two and Hunter Kerr two.
Against the Panthers, Matt Askett contributed 14, Ferreira 12, Erik Purcell two, Galbraith one, Kerr one and Zechariah VanSteenbergen one.
In the seniors-Panthers match up, Hollinger tossed up 27, Seymour 17, Jason Struyk six, John Albrecht six, Tyler Bonsma two and Jake Dekoning one.
Facing the Salukis, Dekoning had four, Adrian Menzi four and Albrecht, Bonsma, Darcey Greydanus, Jeff Miller and Struyk all had a pair.
The seniors improved to 6-3 on the year, good for fourth of the 11-team Huron-Perth Conference.
The juniors (7-2) sit third overall.
Both squads wrap up the regular season today at home.
The Central Huron Redmen juniors (6-3) and seniors (3-6) pay a visit to Listowel’s gym, with the action tipping off at 2:30 p.m.

MEN”S LEAGUE
The Sonics (7-2) took over top spot in the Listowel Men’s Basketball League with a 63-61 win over Meulensteen Tire (4-5) last Thursday, Feb. 4.
Big Time (6-3) dropped to second after a 69-62 defeat at the hands of the Seahawks (5-4).
In the final game, Bramhill Seeds (5-4) bested High School (0-9) 105-58.
