MONKTON – Having two hockey teams with identical records pitted against each other in a playoff series, it’s no surprise Monkton and Petrolia are tied 1-1 so far.
In a best-of-seven Senior A South Division semifinal set, the Petrolia Squires took the opener 5-3, then the Wildcats clawed back in Game 2, skating away with a 3-1 final.
Both squads finished the regular season with 14-5-0-1 records.
Game 3 goes this Friday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. in Petrolia, with Game 4 at the Elma-Logan Recreation Complex in Monkton on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
In the other South semifinal, Lucan-Ilderton has taken an early 2-0 lead over Tillsonburg.
A noteworthy outcome in one of the North semifinals saw the Elora Rocks’ perfect year come to an end.
They finished the season with a 20-0 record, then swept their qualifying series 3-0 against Shallow Lake and took Game 1 of their semifinal against Ripley.
The Wolves were then the first team to down the Rocks with a 7-6 win in Game 2.
