There’ll have to make room for another banner inside the Elma-Logan Recreation Complex in Monkton.
The Intermediate C Wildcats earned silver at the provincials following a 2-0 setback to Owen Sound in the final game on Sunday, Feb. 21.
Elma-Logan cruised through the tournament to get to the championship, beating Glencoe 3-0, Stratford 4-0 and Saugeen Shores 4-1.
The only loss was in the opener on Feb. 19 – once again to Owen Sound – 3-0.
Ashley Matheson, Leah Johnson and Elisha Buchanan scored against Glencoe, while Buchanan, Nicole Bannerman, Aleshia Miller, Matheson and Niki Templeman assisted. Shannon Thompson earned the shutout.
“We played our best game of the tournament against Stratford,” manager/coach Dave Templeman wrote in an email. “We dominated the second, scoring three times.”
Bannerman, Johnson and Buchanan did the damage in that frame with helpers from Jody Yungblut, N. Templeman and Sarah Elligsen, Johnson also netted the first goal from Buchanan and Miller, Shannon Thompson was perfect once again.
Against Saugeen Shores, Johnson, Bannerman, Holly Hundt and Buchanan scored, and Buchanan, Johnson, Laura Dewetering, Yungblut, Templeman, Elligsen and Johnson assisted.
In the championship game, Owen Sound scored both goals with under five minutes to play in a tightly contested game.
The silver adds to an already impressive season for the squad. The Wildcats also collected silver at the International Silver Stick tournament in November.
