The dream of an all-Ontario championship came to an end for the Listowel Bantam Reps.
The Cyclones lost Game 3 of their OMHA semifinal by a score of 6-2 to the visiting Strathroy Rockets on Wednesday, March 3, handing the Rockets a three-game sweep.
After dropping the first two matches by scores of 7-1, Listowel kept battling despite having to win three straight games to advance.
Down 2-1 in the second period, Cory Wilson slipped a backhand through the Rocket’s goaltender during a delayed penalty to draw even.
It was all Strathroy after that, though, as they scored four unanswered goals to close out the game and the series.
Connor Dewar had the other Cyclone’s goal.
On Friday, March 5, the Peewee AEs – Listowel’s other entry in the OMHA semifinals – marched into Port Perry trailing two games to none to the Predators.
After a pair of lopsided scores, the Cyclones rebounded with a close game, and found themselves trailing 2-1 as the clock ticked down.
They could not find the equalizer and the Predators concluded the sweep.
