The Listowel Golf Club will be bustling all week with a collection of the most talented young male golfers in the province.
The Investor’s Group Ontario Junior and Juvenile Boys’ Championship, governed by the Golf Association of Ontario, runs July 20-23.
Round two is in progress today (July 21), with the first group teeing off at 7:30 a.m. and the last at 2:30 p.m. It’s a four-round, stroke play invitation only format.
Among the long list of competitors are three local entries: 14-year-old Nathan Dietz, 17-year-old Blake Thompson and 18-year-old Corey Conners, all from Listowel.
The public is welcome to come view the action, but the GAO has strict guidelines regarding giving advice to the golfers.
No one is allowed to speak to the players regarding choice of club, method of making a stroke, or influencing a competitor in any way. Golfers are also barred from giving advice to each other.
Spectators also are not permitted to be on the fairway. They must remain on the cart paths whenever possible.
The Heritage course serves as holes 1-9, and Millenium is 10-18. As a result those two courses, as well as the driving range, are closed to the public until the tournament’s conclusion. The Vintage course will remain open.
The 2009 junior champion, Albin Choi, also a part of Canada’s development team, is back to defend his title.
